Vomiting is the forceful ejection of the contents of the stomach and upper small intestine through the mouth. Vomiting is usually easy to recognize but can be confused with the expulsion of phlegm.
Vomiting can be mild and self-limiting. Dogs are often seen eating grass and then vomiting shortly thereafter.
Persistent vomiting is a sign of severe disease, especially when seen with other signs of illness such as lethargy, lack of appetite, pain or fever. Further, the behavior in an of itself can worsen disease by producing losses of water and electrolytes as well as digesting food.
